CASAS

What is the CASAS?

The CASAS (Comprehensive Adult Student Assessment System) is for students whose native language is not English. It measures your English skills in:

  • Reading
  • Listening

Who should take the CASAS test?

Florida requires students to take admissions or placement tests before entering a program. The test you take depends on the program you want to enter. If you are entering the ESOL program as a U.S. citizen or resident alien, you should take the CASAS test. The CASAS test meets the State's requirement for students entering an ESOL program.

CASAS is not an admissions test. You can enroll in ESOL not matter what score you earn. SCC uses the CASAS score to:

  • Determine your English skill level. Your sill level indicates what program level you should begin your studies. Beginning in the right level is critical to learning English.
  • Identify your strengths and weaknesses. At SCC, we want you to succeed. By knowing what areas you need help in, your instructors can work with you to strengthen your skills in those areas.
