Policy concerning the reporting of criminal actions or other emergencies and SCC's response to such reportsIt is the policy of SCC to protect the rights of all individuals and safeguard the safety and welfare of everyone in the SCC community. All members of the SCC community are expected to conduct themselves with proper respect for one another and of each other's property. It is particularly important that each member of the SCC community have the right to be free from acts of violence and threats of violence, and that members of the community are expected and required to comply with all city, state and federal laws. Any member of the community who is victimized by a crime, observes a crime, or has knowledge of a criminal action (or other emergency) should immediately report such action or emergency to the SCC Campus Security Department. All complaints will be investigated. Reporting of crimes and emergencies to campus securityAny member of the SCC community or visitor can report potential criminal actions and other emergencies on campus directly to Campus Security by dialing ext. 2178 from any campus telephone or 407.708.2178 from a pay phone. In emergency situations, community members may push the button of an outdoor blue emergency call box and be directly connected to campus security. Blue emergency telephones are located in outdoor locations across the SCC campus - location maps are available from campus security crime prevention. Criminal activity or emergencies can also be reported by calling SCC Security Department at the Sanford/Lake Mary campus, or by going to the SCC Campus Security headquarters, located in Building J, room 0008. Upon receipt of a report of an incident, Campus Security is dispatched immediately to the site of the complaint. Officers prepare and submit case reports on all calls answered. Investigative and support services along with follow-up reports are provided when necessary. In situations involving serious felonies, i.e. armed robbery, etc. the Campus Security will automatically notify the local Police Department or other appropriate jurisdiction to allow them to respond along with campus security officers. In less serious situations, i.e., thefts, Campus Security will keep law enforcement informed. |
