The Physical Therapist Assistant Program at SCC is a five-semester, limited-access lock-step program. The program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE), American Physical Therapy Association. Graduates of this accredited program receive an Associate in Science Degree for the Physical Therapist Assistant and are eligible to take the state licensure examination. The Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) is a skilled health care worker who carries out patient treatment programs under the direction of the physical therapist. Duties of the assistant include the application of various physical agents (ice, heat, ultrasound, and electrical stimulation), massage, gait training, and therapeutic exercise to relieve pain and restore function.
