New Directions - Displaced Homemaker Program

"Empower Yourself through Education and Training"

The New Directions is a state grant-funded program sponsored by the Agency for Workforce Innovation (AWI). The goal of this program is to assist the Displaced Homemaker, Single Parent or Single Pregnant Women attending Seminole Community College to attain independence, economic security and self-sufficiency.

Women The New Directions Program offers to the qualified student, assistance with tuition, books, childcare stipend, uniforms, equipment, educational program related expenses and consideration for emergency assistance.

Those Who Qualify for the Program
Displaced Homemaker

To be considered for assistance, an individual must meet the indicated criteria and provide proof of the following:

  • 35 years of age or older
  • Has worked in the home providing unpaid household services for family members
  • Is not adequately employed (earning a self-sufficient income)
  • Has had or would have difficulty in securing adequate employment
  • Has been dependent on the income of another family member but is no longer supported by such income
  • Or has been dependent on federal assistance
Single Parent or Single Pregnant Women

To be considered for this program, an individual must meet the following criteria in addition to providing proof of child(ren) custody, marital status and educational background:

  • Must be between the ages of 17-34
  • Will seek a degree/certificate in a non-traditional career for their gender
