What is the BCLS Exam?
The BCLS (Basic Cardiac Life Support) measures your competency in life
saving cardiac life support and resuscitation techniques. The National
Resuscitation Council controls the exam content.
What is the exam content?
Exam content focuses on:
- One-rescuer Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
- Two-rescuer CPR
- Foreign Body Airway Obstruction (FBAO) for conscious adults
- FBAO for unconscious adults
- Infant CPR
- Infant FBAO
Why is this an employment requirement for some agencies?
As a dispatcher, you may have to give CPR and first aid instructions to
a caller. It is critical to know the techniques to save a victim's
life. Many employer's use the BCLS certification as a credential
towards your life saving knowledge and skills.
